Many of zeitgeistland’s blog articles focus on environmental issues in the US, but of course there are many dire situations all across the globe, and they need publicity as well. In this case, it is difficult to believe that people would be so abusive to a lake that is both a very important water supply and food resource, and yet, it has happened. This is certainly one example of how globalization has had a deleterious effect on the environment, and we consumerists in the West have played our role in this unfolding environmental disaster.

It is one of the most fundamental issues that humanity will have to grapple with, and it may even decide our ultimate survival. How can we all have enough to eat, clean water to drink and a roof over our heads, and preserve what is left of our natural resources that are our oceans, lakes, streams, forests and all of the creatures that depend on those resources for survival? By the way, in this day and age of multimedia manipulation, the discerning reader always consults more than one source in order to get an idea of how trustworthy her information is. Do you just believe everything one of our politicians claims when you see him on tv during campaign season? Not likely. But, these days, you have to be aware of misinformation coming from all directions, including newspapers, blogs (ahem), radio and small movies.
