In the early 1980's living in the Dayton, Ohio area I also used to wake up to the sounds of bobwhite quail. Although the area where I lived was becoming developed, there were still some areas with high grass land. Now the area is completely developed, the grass lands are gone and I imagine so are the bobwhites.
