Well, I hate to say it, but I’m going to cliche-away. Truth is often more humorous than fiction. It is interesting to see the media-hype
zeitgeist clash with state interests. Most politicians know they should support ways of making the U.S. less dependent on oil, unless they’re from Michigan or Virginia, in which case they try to squash a state’s right to regulate autos on their roads.
That said, the taxes must still be collected. Road taxes, that is, and the state machinery must do its job so that our roads are maintained. Here is hoping that they find a way to continue to fix the roads while not managing to kill the good will and intentions of those who are trying different ways to unharness themselves from oil. We have a long way to go, and likely many different alternative methods will have to be used to conquer this problem, but don’t kill the early-adopters before we’ve had a chance to learn from them!
